About the Nasdaq 100

The Nasdaq 100 (NDX) tracks the 100 largest non-financial companies listed on the Nasdaq stock exchange, weighted by market capitalization. It is heavily concentrated in technology and is the index behind some of the most actively traded funds in the world.

Like all U.S. equity indices, the official Nasdaq 100 value updates only during regular market hours (9:30 AM to 4:00 PM Eastern on trading days). WeekendIndex shows a live Nasdaq 100 price 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, so you can watch it move overnight and on weekends. This is an implied market price, not the official index value.

Frequently asked questions

Can I see the Nasdaq 100 price on weekends?

Yes. The official Nasdaq 100 is only published while the U.S. stock market is open, so it freezes on weekends. WeekendIndex shows a live, continuously-updating Nasdaq 100 price 24/7, so you can watch it on Saturday and Sunday.

Why is the Nasdaq 100 moving when the stock market is closed?

WeekendIndex tracks 24/7 markets that price the Nasdaq 100 around the clock. Even when the New York exchanges are closed overnight or on holidays, those markets keep moving, so the price you see here keeps updating. It is an implied market price, not the official index value.

What are the regular trading hours for the Nasdaq 100?

The underlying U.S. stocks trade from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM Eastern on weekdays, with pre-market and after-hours sessions around that window. WeekendIndex shows a price outside those hours too, 365 days a year.
