WeekendIndex
24/7 Market open

Is the stock market open on weekends?

No. The U.S. stock market (NYSE and Nasdaq) is closed every Saturday and Sunday and reopens Monday at 9:30 AM ET. But the price never really stops moving, and WeekendIndex shows it to you 24/7.

The stock market is closed right now

Status: After hours (US Eastern). Yet the S&P 500 is trading at 7,748.65 on the 24/7 market right now.

Why can I see a weekend price if the market is closed?

Traditional exchanges close on weekends, so the official S&P 500 index value is frozen until Monday. WeekendIndex instead tracks 24/7 markets that price the same indices and commodities around the clock, so you get a live, continuously-updating number even on Saturday and Sunday, overnight, and on holidays. It is the implied market price, not the official index value.

What about gold, silver and oil on weekends?

Commodity futures also pause for the weekend, roughly Friday 5:00 PM ET to Sunday 6:00 PM ET — gold, silver and WTI crude on the CME, and Brent crude on ICE Futures Europe. WeekendIndex keeps showing live prices for all of them throughout. See live gold & silver prices, or check which days the market closes on our stock market holidays page.
