Futures market hours: when CME Globex is open
Most futures trade almost 24 hours a day, five days a week. CME Globex opens Sunday at 6:00 PM Eastern and runs to Friday at 5:00 PM, with a one-hour break at 5:00 PM ET every weekday. In 2026 a handful of contracts moved to true 24/7 trading.

CME also planned a 24/7 10-barrel WTI crude contract for August 30, 2026, but postponed the launch pending regulatory review. The standard 1,000-barrel CL contract keeps the Sunday to Friday schedule.
The daily maintenance break
From Monday to Thursday, Globex pauses at 5:00 PM ET and reopens at 6:00 PM ET. Settlement prices are set around the 5:00 PM close, and the reopen starts the next trade date. Friday's 5:00 PM close is the end of the week; there is no Friday evening session for the standard contracts.
Are futures open on weekends?
For most contracts, no. The weekend closure runs from Friday 5:00 PM ET to Sunday 6:00 PM ET. The 24/7 contracts above are the exception: they trade through Saturday and Sunday with only a short maintenance window. Futures hours on holidays
Holiday hours are set per product and published by CME about two weeks ahead. On most US holidays, equity index futures trade a shortened session that halts at 1:00 PM ET and reopens at 6:00 PM ET that evening. Globex is closed completely on Christmas Day and New Year's Day. ICE Brent crude hours
Brent crude trades on ICE Futures Europe rather than CME. The contract opens at 8:00 PM ET Sunday and trades until 6:00 PM ET each day with a two-hour break before the next session, closing for the week at 6:00 PM ET Friday. See the live Brent crude price.
Futures hours versus stock market hours
The stock market's regular session is only 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM ET on weekdays. Futures on the same indices trade about 23 hours a day, which is why S&P 500 futures are the usual guide to where stocks will open.
