Gold trading hours: when the gold market is open
Gold trades almost around the clock. COMEX gold futures run from Sunday 6:00 PM to Friday 5:00 PM Eastern with a one-hour break each evening, the London market sets its benchmark price twice a day, and since July 2026 CME's 1-ounce gold contract trades through the weekend too.

The Sunday 6:00 PM open carries Monday's trade date, and settlement prices are set around the 1:30 PM ET close of floor hours. Friday's 5:00 PM ET close ends the week for GC and MGC. The full CME schedule for every product is on the futures market hours page.
London gold market hours
Physical gold is priced over the counter in London, where the LBMA Gold Price auction sets the benchmark twice a day at 10:30 AM and 3:00 PM London time (5:30 AM and 10:00 AM ET during US daylight time). Spot gold itself trades continuously from the Asian open on Sunday evening ET until the New York close on Friday afternoon, passing from Sydney and Tokyo to Shanghai, London and New York.
Gold ETF trading hours
Gold ETFs such as GLD, IAU and GLDM trade on NYSE Arca during the regular stock session, 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM ET, with pre-market and after-hours sessions from 4:00 AM to 8:00 PM ET at most brokers. A few brokers now include gold ETFs in their overnight session from 8:00 PM to 4:00 AM ET.
Is the gold market open on weekends?
The traditional gold market is closed from Friday 5:00 PM ET to Sunday 6:00 PM ET. COMEX GC, London spot and gold ETFs all pause. The exceptions are the 24/7 1-ounce gold futures, weekend gold CFDs at some non-US brokers, and 24/7 markets that price gold around the clock. Silver trading hours
Silver follows the same schedule: COMEX silver futures (SI) trade Sunday 6:00 PM to Friday 5:00 PM ET with the 5:00 PM break, and the LBMA silver price is set once a day at 12:00 PM London time. COMEX gold futures open at 6:00 PM ET on Sunday and reopen at 6:00 PM ET after the daily break on Monday to Thursday. London spot trading starts with the Asian session on Sunday evening ET.
What time does gold trading close on Friday?
Gold futures close for the week at 5:00 PM ET on Friday. The London market winds down with the New York close at about the same time.
Is gold traded 24 hours a day?
Close to it on weekdays: futures trade about 23 hours a day and spot gold moves from Asia to London to New York. Only the 1-ounce gold futures and some CFD and crypto-based venues trade on Saturday.
When is the London gold fix?
The LBMA Gold Price is set at 10:30 AM and 3:00 PM London time every business day. The 3:00 PM price is the one most contracts and funds reference.
